If you’re getting emails you don’t want in your Gmail inbox, can block someone? Yes, you can block from the sender, or report the message to Gmail.

Block Sender

When you block a sender, their messages will go to your Spam folder.

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.

  2. Open the message.

  3. In the top right, click "More".

  4. Click "Block [sender]".

If you blocked someone by mistake, you can unblock them using the same steps.

Report Spam

When you click "Report spam", the message will go to your Spam folder.

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.

  2. Open the message.

  3. In the top right, click "More".

  4. Click "Report spam".

Report Phishing

Or you can report the email for phishing.

  1. On your computer, go to Gmail.

  2. Open the message.

  3. In the top right, click "More".

  4. Click "Report phishing".

Phishing messages often appear to come from a reputable source such as a government agency or a financial institution. An example is a message that claims to be from your bank asking you to click a link and enter your account number.

In the United States there is no way to block mailings. Why? Because that person mailing to you has paid for that piece of mail to be delivered to your mailbox. Whether you want it or not.

You can report a fraudulent message to Gmail's Program Policies.
